As part of the Under The Tree Series, the Student Leadership and Ethics Board of the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Center for Leadership and Ethics invites you to join an interactive group discussion on privacy in the age of big data, led by Professor Sandra Matz.
Big Data and predictive technologies allow researchers, companies, and governments to turn seemingly innocuous digital traces of human behavior into highly personal psychological profiles. Some have gone as far as calling the age of Big Data the death of privacy. As part of our conversation, Professor Matz will speak on:
- The challenges Big Data is posing to our current approaches to privacy protection.
- Why placing the burden of privacy protection on users is misguided.
- Introduce a number of design and technological solutions that make it possible to protect privacy while reaping the benefits of personalization.
About Under The Tree Series
The Student Leadership & Ethics Board has initiated this platform to encourage interactive group discussions among students about the subtle interweaving of ethics and leadership among different industries and topics of interest. Some examples of topics include: ‘Responsible use of customer’s data' and ‘Ethical boundaries on exercising power and influence as a leader’. These discussions are typically led by a faculty member and are held in small groups of 10-12 CBS students.
This event is co-sponsored by the Student Leadership and Ethics Board as kick-off to Leadership and Ethics Week 2021.
