As part of Leadership and Ethics Week, the Student Leadership and Ethics Board of the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co Center for Leadership and Ethics invites you to join a conversation on philanthropy and crisis response, in the wake of COVID-19. The discussion will consider the responsibility of philanthropy in moments of crisis, while exploring the tension between responsive solutions and long-standing priorities, core values, and areas of expertise. This conversation will be moderated by Allison Kline '20.

About Melissa Berman:


Melissa Berman is the President and CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc., an innovative nonprofit philanthropy service founded by the Rockefeller family. Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors' mission is to help donors create thoughtful, effective philanthropy throughout the world. RPA develops strategic plans, conducts research, manages foundations and trusts, structures major gifts, coordinates donor collaboratives, and provides regranting and fiscal sponsorship services. Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors annually manages or facilitates about $200 million in giving to more than 20 countries. It has offices in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. A frequent speaker, Ms. Berman has been profiled in the New York Times and the Stanford Social Innovation Review. Her ideas and views are featured regularly in the Economist, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Business Week, Financial Times, USA Today, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy. She has been interviewed on the Today Show, NBC Nightly News, NPR, CNBC-TV, and Bloomberg TV. Ms. Berman is a director of the Foundation Center and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. She is an adjunct Professor at Columbia University Business School, where she also serves on the Advisory Board for the Social Enterprise Program. She is a member of the International Council of the New Israel Fund. Ms. Berman holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
 

About Chris Cardona:


Chris Cardona programs the Philanthropy portfolio and serves on the BUILD team at the Ford Foundation in New York City. As program officer, he is responsible for designing and implementing a grantmaking strategy to build an enduring capacity to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion with an intersectional lens in U.S. philanthropy. As part of the BUILD team, he supports other grantmakers at the foundation in providing organizational strengthening support to their grantee partners, and advises internally on philanthropic engagement.

Chris serves on the boards of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, whose mission is to relentlessly pursue equity for all Arkansans, and Red Hook Initiative, a youth-serving agency in Brooklyn that believes that social change to overcome systemic inequities begins with empowered youth.

Prior to joining the Ford Foundation, he led the philanthropy consulting practice at TCC Group and served as program director for the Northeast region at Hispanics in Philanthropy. He holds a Ph.D in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. in political science from Williams College, where he met his wife, an arts fundraiser. They live in Queens with an increasingly unmanageable collection of stringed instruments.
 

About Anuar Juraidini:


Anuar Juraidini is a Program Officer at the Citi Foundation, managing grant investments across Foundation portfolios, including Pathways to Progress, research efforts, and local grantmaking. Anuar also manages the Foundation's data analysis efforts and assists in the annual program strategy and goal setting process. Prior to this role Anuar led the Grants Management team and was responsible for grants administration, information management, reporting, and IT management. Anuar holds a BA in Philosophy and Economics from Fordham University and a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University.
